British Steel x Emma AI
THE CHALLENGE
British Steel’s Skinningrove site supports British Steel, TC Industries and Caterpillar. Utilities are distributed through shared site infrastructure, production areas and company-specific supplies, making clear allocation and visibility essential. They required installation of monitoring across key electricity, gas and water points to create a more structured view of consumption across the site.
SOLUTION
Optimal Monitoring installed a multi-utility monitoring system across electricity, gas and water supplies, giving British Steel and the other organisations on site a stronger foundation for utility visibility.
The installation provided detailed gas monitoring, while the survey identified remaining electricity and water gaps, including incompatible meters and high-load production assets requiring further sub-metering.
The proposed next phase focuses on the largest drives, pumps, motors and compressors, with the aim of bringing 90%+ of electricity use into view: supporting better energy management, cost allocation and investment decisions.
Coverage gaps identified
✓
Office electricity meter requires replacement before data can be captured.
✓
TC Industries water meter also requires replacement for compatibility.
